Senior appointment made in the West Country
A key senior appointment has been made at one of the West Country’s leading business advisory firms that is embarking on a new era.
Melanie Cage has joined Baldwins as Senior Tax Manager and will be working across the firm’s offices in Fry Street, Holsworthy; Western Road, Launceston; and Bedford Square, Tavistock.
Melanie, a Private Client tax specialist, joins Baldwins with ten years of experience at a Cornish accountancy firm, and will work closely with Michael Hesketh, who recently joined Baldwins as Head of Tax for the West Country, and the wider West Country Tax Team. Complementing her wide-ranging technical knowledge of personal and business taxes Melanie has extensive experience of Trust and Estate planning, cross border and other complex tax issues that affect high net worth private clients.
She said: “Baldwins is growing its presence throughout the West Country and I am really excited to join the expanding tax practice here and to help support and grow the tax offering for the benefit of our clients.
“The continuously evolving world of tax is a challenging environment, particularly for business owners who need to focus on their day-to-day expertise. My role is to ensure that our clients take advantage of all relevant tax reliefs and arrange their affairs, so far as is practical, for optimal tax efficiency.
The current Inheritance Tax Review being conducted by the Office of Tax Simplification is anticipated to introduce sweeping changes to tax reliefs and processes. We will be ensuring that our clients, particularly family-run agricultural and tourism businesses, often passed down through the generations, adapt their strategic tax planning as is necessary.
Matthew Gard, Regional Managing Partner for Baldwins in the West Country, added: “Changing Potter Baker’s name reflects the network of offices we now have in the West Country that is providing a one-stop-shop of accountancy, taxation and business advisory services – while the name has changed, the high level of service remains the same for our clients.
“Melanie is joining Baldwins at an exciting juncture in our growth. Adopting a pro-active attitude to tax is central to the success of any business, and we are in the process of adding to our first-class team of tax specialists on the ground in the West Country.
“She has in-depth knowledge of the business and taxation landscape in Devon and Cornwall with experience across multiple areas of tax, making her ideally placed to support Michael in helping entrepreneurs and their businesses to not only comply with ever-changing legislation, but to also use reliefs to their advantage.”
Michael Hesketh, Head of Tax for the West Country, also added: “It’s fantastic to have someone of Melanie’s experience and technical expertise join the team. I very much look forward to working with Melanie and the rest of the tax department to help build on and expand the tax service we already offer in the West Country.”
