KickStart 2016 – The Finalists
Three start-up companies in the Midlands have made it to the final of a regional business competition which could see them win £20,000 to push their ideas forward
The winner will be announced at Baldwins Accountants KickStart Awards next month and the winning business will be presented with a £10,000 grant and £10,000 worth of mentoring and accountancy advice from Baldwins.
Buckt is the brainchild of Birmingham entrepreneur Daniel Bridgewater and is currently at the funding stage.
The idea combines the bucket list concept with a monthly subscription service, where people pay a monthly fee to receive a box full of tickets, discounts, invitations and challenges.
Also competing for the prize is online women’s snow-sports retailer Snooks.
Former Loughborough University students and keen snowboarders Sophie Kelly and Susie Beere founded the business after they became frustrated at having to wear tight fitting ski jackets and trousers on their trips.
The business began trading in February and is gearing up for a big November marketing launch before the start of the ski and snowboarding season.
Leamington’s Pop Up Esports will also be hoping to win the funding on Thursday, November 10 at Edgbaston Cricket Ground.
Passionate gamer and full-time salesman Ben Bagg plans to use use the prize to help fund the start-up of his gaming league, which will enable UK gamers to face off against each other for money.
Depending on whether he secures funding, Ben hopes to launch the league in January.
David Baldwin, director at Baldwins Accountants, said: “This is a great opportunity for these brilliant entrepreneurs to take their businesses to the next level.
“I wish all three shortlisted businesses the best of luck on the awards night, and look forward to helping them further develop their businesses in the future.”
