Further Investment in the South East
The first accountancy firm in Oxfordshire to provide probate services has joined a rapidly expanding UK-wide practice.
Morgan Cameron, based in Witney, Oxfordshire, has joined the Baldwins Accountancy Group and has become the 43rd office in the Group, who now employ over 1,250 staff with an annual turnover of around £70 million.
The firm’s 17 staff in Thorney Leys Park, Witney, will remain at the site which will continue to trade as Morgan Cameron. The deal builds on Baldwins’ presence in the region following their acquisition of Clark Howes in Bicester in May.
Morgan Cameron, whose clients range from farming to technology start-ups and owner-managed businesses, were among the first in the UK to be licensed with the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales to offer probate services.
This service will now be rolled out nationally across the Baldwins Accountancy Group and will soon be available to all clients.
Margaret Thornton, tax and strategy director at Morgan Cameron, said the response from their clients has been extremely positive in regards to providing probate services.
“Previously it was only solicitors who could provide probate services but we believe we offer a better, quicker and cheaper service,” she said. “Our research showed that probate cost more and took longer than people were expecting, and a common complaint was that they were kept in the dark so they had no idea what was going on.
“This is a great opportunity for Baldwins’ clients. We have spent time designing systems and processes to carry out probate work more efficiently, using the best modern software to speed up the work. It is about re-inventing the way probate is offered.”
Morgan Cameron also provide UK tax services to clients working or living overseas in over 50 different countries.
“We have a lot of tax clients including diplomatic staff who switch from living or working in the UK to many European countries as well as places like Kazakhstan, Bermuda and the Falklands Islands,” Margaret added.
“Joining the Baldwins Group enables us to retain our individual culture and ethos as well as being able to offer our clients a wider range of services and access to industry specialists.”
Karen Horwood at Morgan Cameron has been promoted to director following the acquisition.
Shaun Knight, director at Baldwins Accountants, said providing probate services will further strengthen the vast range of advice and support available to their clients throughout the UK.
He said: “Morgan Cameron has built an enviable reputation in the accountancy profession for its probate work.
“We will soon be offering this service throughout our offices so that all our clients can benefit from receiving their expert help wherever they are based.
“This is our second investment in Oxfordshire in as many months following our acquisition of Clark Howes and I am sure it will be just as successful.”
