Banking & Finance team bolster Agricultural expertise with new senior appointment
A West Country business advisory firm has bolstered its Agricultural expertise with a key senior appointment to its Banking and Finance advisory Team.
Rob Bewes has joined Baldwins as Director of the firm’s Banking and Finance team in the West Country, which serves around 3000 businesses from offices in South Molton, Holsworthy, Launceston and Tavistock, as well as being the National Agricultural figurehead for the Banking and Finance Team.
Rob joins Baldwins with more than 30 years experience in the Banking industry, predominately covering Devon and Cornwall, including the past 20 years at a major High Street Bank which included advising Agricultural and Commercial businesses.
“While Banks are cutting costs and closing branches, Baldwins are on the up and expanding, which is really encouraging for traditional business owners and obtaining the advice they require” said Rob, who originates from a family dairy farm in North Devon.
“Times are changing and the internet means that a lot of businesses now manage their finances online, but a lot of businesses still want a regular face-to-face contact when they are applying for additional investment or reviewing the performance of their business.
“My core role will be to uphold the traditional relationships that clients used to receive from the Banks, whilst more of our clients are finding it harder to actually speak to a traditional Bank Manager.
“While the main High Street Banks and the Agricultural Mortgage Company are the more traditional outlet, especially for agricultural funding, they now have competition from different lending channels, and it’s my job to marry together the best deals to suit each business’ needs.
“Brexit is a massive concern for most businesses, again only highlighted within the Agricultural sector, due to their previous European Government subsidies, and how this is going to affect everyone with the uncertainty of what the future holds.
“I’m looking forward to using all of my Agricultural and general Banking knowledge to help the region’s farmers and other businesses, to navigate any Brexit barriers and unlock further growth.”
Rob will work closely with Rob Young, Partner for Baldwins in the West Country, in developing relationships within the West Country’s business community.
Rob Young added: “Alongside tourism, the Agricultural industry forms the cornerstone of the West Country’s economy and prosperity so Rob’s financial expertise, specifically in this sector, will be of great benefit to the region as a whole”.
“He also has fantastic general banking and finance knowledge having spent all of his career in the Banking industry, so he will play an instrumental role in helping business owners in general to pick a loan with the cheapest interest rates and suitable terms and conditions.”
